Within the Walls

I'd ended up missing eating tang yuan on the last day of Chinese New Year and was so bummed about it! Luckily, I was taken to the most enthusiastic Hong Kong style dessert bar just down the street.

I really love this style that they're going for! Very back alley vibes, which is where you know the food is definitely good!

The vibes continued inside with bright neon signs in Chinese and a wall decor reminiscent of a Chinese barber shop. It was all so cool and I really could've stayed here forever if not for the loud blaring music and remixing my childhood favourites into unrecognisable catastrophies...But I digress. I still really loved the vibes.

Finally it was time for the dessert! I had the traditional tang yuan with ginger soup. 2 peanut filled balls and 2 sesame balls, covered in chewy glutinous rice mochi. Tasted just like my childhood. The sweet but spicy ginger soup really calmed my stomach after a heavy meal. The warmth paired well with the fragrant fillings of the balls too! I watched the toppings pop out onto my porcelain spoon as I shared half with my other half (haha). Of course, I ate the last ball whole and swam in the sweet taste of heavy sesame fillings.

The grass jelly I felt was a bit too herbal, like those Chinese cooling teas my Mother always made me drink when I was younger. I guess it also reminded me of my childhood, somewhat. The longans did make up for it though, but wasn't a dish we could finish.

I really liked this place and would definitely come back just for the vibes! They also sell dim sum which I super love and will definitely be coming back for!
