Memoir of a snail is directed and written by Adam Elliot, who has been known for his eccentric stop motion movies. This one is no different as you can recognise the style from the poster alone. The story is about Grace Prudence Pudel, one half of a pair of twins who are separated after their Father unfortunately dies. The movie mostly centres around her and her relationship with herself, using her snail Silvia as an analogy. The movie's message highly focuses on coming out of one's shell, especially when it's hard.

I really liked this one actually! A short movie, only about an hour an a half long. The stop motion is charming albeit kind of ugly in a cute way. The message is heartfelt if you've ever been in a time so low in your life that you'd want to throw it all away. You really feel Gracie's feelings and intentions every step of the way as her life twists and turns. I think many critics get it wrong when they comment that the film is all doom and gloom. It really isn't though as you see Gracie and Gilbert have their happy but fleeting moments too. Isn't that life though? Having happy but fleeting moments amongst all the bad. I feel it's a good representation of life itself, especially one riddled with self confidence issues and depression. The film paints an incredibly accurate and empathetic picture of someone with a hoarding disorder and invites the audience to understand the mental health issues that comes with hoarding. A great film to watch if you have an hour to spare, but please don't show this to your children.
