The Coup Bar

Amongst the valleys and hills of Ann Siang Hill rests a quiet, unassuming little bar. Down two flights of stairs is a small but cosy space with hand painted walls and empty bottles decorating the tables. It was Chinese New Year then so on display with that familiar red topping was a container full of love letters.

After a few hours I started getting a bit hungry so I ordered from their special menu.

Here I have a bowl of hand pulled scallion fried noodles with an egg, fried scallions, sesame seeds and spring onions as toppings. In the corner I have a pomegranate and raspberry probiotic low sugar fizzy drink. It was a really small portion and I heard they only served two portions that day! Count my lucky stars.

The whole thing was really good! From the chewy noodles to the vinegary, scallion infused oil to the ramen egg, everything worked in tandem to create a symphony of flavours. Plus the porcelain Chinese style bowl just added a touch of character. The drink was really good too! I was expecting it to be too sweet for my tastes but it actually balanced out the heavy flavour of the noodles.

However, I think this was only a once in a while kind of event dish. But I'm glad I got to try it!
